“ The pub formally owned by Tom Crean who was the chief warrant officer on Edward Shackleton's infamous Antarctica expedition. The walls are covered with interesting photos and articles about the trip, and if your lucky, the current owner will tell the full story of the famous trip. Worth a visit just to hear the story! ”
“ DISCLAIMER - I visited this site pre-COVID. This is a classic Irish pub. We visited this site as part of a CIE tour of Ireland, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Being here early in the day, we settled for some delicious Irish coffee in lieu of something stronger. The pub chronicles the history of Admiral Scott's trip to the South Pole. Tom Crean, a local was part of that expedition and he opened this pub. The Crean family owned it until 1953. Tom was also on Schackleford's expedition and, overall, he made 3 trips to the Antarctic. There is a lot of history here - including many artifacts and "stuff" from Tom's 3 trips to the Antarctic. ”

My evening in this pub started by a true hero I learned of in Antarctica, TOM CREAN of the famed Shackleton Antarctic Survey, was the most fun night I've ever had when Wandering. True. The mix of the American college students I was traveling with, the local guitarist and accordion players playing bluegrass music and the true villagers combined for the the very best night. Good pub food. Would love to return to Anascaul. ”

“ Fantastic little pub! We stopped here on a drive and it is lovely! The inside is your typical pub with a great staff and flowing Guinness. The outdoor area is what is a true delight though. There are picnic tables and a nice yard and right next to the pub there is a river/creek you can sit under a tree by the water and enjoy your beverage. I made friends with a dog that liked to fetch his special rock. It was cute. Definitely a great place to stop along the way to your next Ireland adventure. ”
